The trail from the main asphalt road to Isomata follows the old path of the settlement. The trail is clear and has a fairly good signage. Through olive groves and terraced fileds, climb to the plateau of the settlement.

Follow for a while a dirt roads that end in front of a livestock facility. Enter the good path that goes downhill towards Steni Vala. The path is briefly interrupted by roads, and eventualy joins the sheltered bay of Agios Petros.

Continue to Steni Vala. The trail ends at the church, in front of a seascape ornamented by the islands of Peristera and Dyo Adelfia.

Orchids of Alonnisos

Ophrys tenthredinifera

The Sawfly orchid (Ophrys tenthredinifera) is one of the most characteristic and easily recognizable orchids of the difficult-to-identify genus of Ophrys. Identification is helped by the wide, yellow-brown lip, usually hairy, as well as the pink side petals.

It is one of the earliest species of orchid in Alonissos. The hiker will spot isolated plants in several places, on the old terraces and the small meadows between the rock sites.

The paths of this trail are well trodden by hikers and domestic animals and are clear and easy to follow.

The route is fairly well marked with red signs.
