Although the inhabitation on the peninsula of Methana did not stop in the Byzantine era, only a few relirius monuments from this period have been preserved. The known Byzantine churches are:

  • The church of Agios Nikolaos in Vathy (11th c.)
  • The ruins of an early-christian basilica near the outcrop of the acropolis of ancient Arsinoe
  • The chapel of Panagitsa near Megalochori
  • The chapels of Agios Ioannis (13th c., some frescoes preserved in good condition) and Agios Dimitrios, as well as the ruined church of Sotiras between Kounoupitsa and Palion Loutron (Mouska)

The other churches in Methana are post-Byzantine or newer. Some of them are of architectural or historical interest, such as Agios Andreas in Kameni Chora, Agia Paraskevi above Megalochori, Agios Ioannis above Megalopotami, Profitis Ilias at the homonymous peak of Makrylogos, Agios Sotiras at the coastal Agios Georgios, Agia Eleousa in Vathi and Agios Theologos in Agii Theodori etc.
